- Step 1 - Complete the application
- Step 2 - Review the offers
- Step 3 - Choose the best offer
To get started, click on the “Apply Now” button, and answer a set of questions about yourself, your school, and the money you need to attend that school. It shouldn’t take you more than ten minutes.
Student Loan Scout will then send your information to the lenders who have a program that fits your criteria, so that several competitive loan choices can be presented to you. The responses of those lenders who approve you for a loan will be posted in a secure “My Account” page of our Web site. You will receive an e-mail each time a new loan choice has been extended to you.
On the “My Account” page you will be able to see the details of your loan choices, such as rate, fees and term. Your choices are presented to you in random order. You will be able to sort the responses by rate, fee amounts, repayment amount and other features; you decide which based on your priorities.
You can obtain additional details about each loan presented to you by clicking on the “Offer Details” button next to each choice listed in the table. When you choose a specific loan, the lender will be notified. Your chosen lender will finish the loan process directly with you, without you having to re-enter any application data.
Rest assured that your e-mail address and phone number will not be distributed to the lenders or any other party for marketing, sales or other purposes. The only way lenders will be able to contact you is upon your request (either by selecting the loan which authorizes that lender to work with you, or via a phone call). Your e-mail address and any other contact information will be used solely to respond to your requests.
Occasionally, Student Loan Scout is unable to match a borrower with a lender . In this case, you may be prompted to adjust the terms of your loan to increase your chances of getting offers from multiple lenders, such as adding a co-borrower. Alternatively, a borrower can fill out an entirely new loan application. We are always adding new lenders to our site, so it's worth checking back over time.
